This is a work I drew for the art exhibition"Women of Surfing:Art and History"that I was invited to in Huntington Beach, California. Commissioned on the theme of “a painting that expresses the connection with the ocean and feelings associated with surfing,” Colleen herself expressed the joy and excitement she felt when she first stepped onto the water, jumped on her board and paddled out. The girl she painted represents the feminine spirit of surfing, and the rainbow is inspired by a happy experience she had surfing in Hawaii when a spontaneous rainbow appeared.
